Why You Should Visit the French Alps in April

Winter might be almost over, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance to ski. In fact, it means quite the opposite!

The French Alps have a lot to offer at the end of the ski season! Many French ski resorts sit at high altitudes, which allows them to stay open late into the year.  Avoriaz sits at 1800m and ranges up to 2466m and consistently boasts one of the largest snow depths across the alps.

From quieter slopes to lower air fares, the benefits of late season skiing are endless.

Don’t believe us? Here’s why you should visit the French Alps in April.

Crowd-Free Slopes

While we all love to ski, nobody likes crowds. Particularly for any younger skiers, long lift queues and crowded pistes can spoil the mood.

Luckily, April in the Alps is quieter! You’ll have missed the peak time of winter and can now enjoy seeing the open slopes in front of you.

There’s nothing quite like making tracks into untouched snow! Plus, if you’re keen to show off your skiing ability, you’ll find plenty of space to perform your stunts!

Another added bonus? Quieter pistes are much better to learn on! It’s much easier to get to grips with your skis when there’s less people in the way. This is great news for anyone taking skiing lessons!

Quicker, Cheaper Transfers

Less crowds also means less traffic!

So, you’ll find your transfer from the airport is significantly quicker than during peak times. Plus, they’ll be cheaper too. It’s a win-win!

Lower Prices

From flights to accommodation, you’ll find everything is cheaper later on in the year. Take advantage of April’s price drops!

Who doesn’t love to save money?

Catching a Tan

Everything feels better under the sun! Yes, this includes skiing. If you haven’t caught a suntan while skiing before, now’s your chance!

The snow quality might not be as good as winter, but thanks to snowmaking, this isn’t something you have to worry about.

Great Après-Ski

France is known for its great après-ski, no matter the time of year.

This doesn’t change later on in the year! As the ski season winds down, the après-ski only gets better.

Something about the relaxed atmosphere makes everyone want to have fun in the evenings. Is there a better way to unwind after a day on the slopes?

Better for Beginners

Some more good news?

In April, the snow is much more forgiving on beginners!

There’s less of the hidden icy patches found in the winter, making the snow perfect for cruising. April is the ideal chance to explore the pistes!

Tempted to head to the slopes? You just need to work out where you’re staying. To make your trip an unforgettable one, stay in some of the finest & most luxurious chalets in Morzine or one of the most luxurious chalets in the Three Valleys.
